Do I support Wesley Clark for President?

January 10th, 2004 . by Alexander Fisher

In the coming 2004 election, much is being made by the media about about the unelectable Howard Dean being the front runner in the race for the Democratic nomination. I am not sure who I support for the nomination. I will vote for whoever runs against George Bush. For me it does not matter who the Democrats choose. That does not mean that I don’t care who I vote for. My personal favorite at the moment is Wesley Clark. I am surprised that I feel this way because of the ties Mr. Clark has to the industrial military complex. The worst part of America is exemplified by this group of killers and profiteers.

I can only say that looking at Wesley Clark’s education, does impress me. He was a Rhodes Scholar and finished first in his class at West Point, not to mention he was a general in the armed forces. These are credentials that I believe make him a good nominee for the Democrats. I don’t know if Wesley Clark was a Democrat before a year ago though. That does bother me slightly. The knowledge that he is a political outsider does make it seem better.
As much as is being made of the unelectable qualities of Howard Dean, it does make the conspiracy theorist in me concerned. With the control of the media squarely in the hands of the conservatives and reactionaries, I wonder how far the White House will go to affect the election outcome? I have wondered who the conservative plant in the Democratic campaign might be. I suspect that one or more candidates are knowingly or unknowingly doing the bidding of rich conservatives and reactionaries. The more disarray that the Democrats seem to be in, the more confident the White House feels. I also suspect the president’s campaign is giving money through donors, to one or more democratic candidates in the opposite order that conservatives see their electability. That could be Howard Dean. Dennis Kucinich could be someone that the conservatives could fund, but his electability with Democrats is not very good either. It certainly is not because of his ideas or intelligence. It is mainly because he isn’t as pretty as the other candidates.

In the end, I am not sure that it will matter what conservatives and reactionaries do to try it to steal this election, like they did in 2000. The country is watching Florida and their election results this time. George Bush does not have any other brothers as governors of any other state. He does have many friends who have that position, but would they risk their political lives on disclosure of questionable balloting in their state? That remains to be seen.

Al Gore beat George Bush in the popular vote in the year 2000 and arguably won the electoral college. I did not want to vote for Al Gore last election. I think that many, especially those that voted for Ralph Nader, felt the same way as I did. If the Democrats can nominate someone that is it least more likable, I believe that the Republicans could be removed from the White House. I have said for some time that as many lies and questionable ethics that have been the symptom of the Bush administration, there will be some new revelations in the future that even the Bush apologists will not be able to explain away. Hopefully that will happen before the election, although it would be pretty sweet to get to impeach George Bush in his second term too.
