Don’t Misunderestimate me because I hate George Bush

December 29th, 2003 . by Alexander Fisher

I am just like you mostly. I think we all really want about the same thing. A nice house. Good things for ourselves and our family. A job that you kind of like is handy too. That’s why I am so puzzled by the behavior of some conservatives and reactionaries in the Republican party.

I consider myself mostly a moderate. I was even officially a Republican for about two years (1999-2001). I do not support abortion. All violent criminals should be tortured. I kind of like the idea of NRA members owning UZI’s. It might keep the government from rounding us all up and making us all slaves in the New World Order.

It just seems that some conservatives and reactionaries (there are some who incorrectly call these people “The Right” and “The Far-Right”) are shouting at me all of the time telling me how wrong I am for questionaing what our government is doing with our money and to our country. I thought conservatives agreed with me on at least one point, that the government usually can’t be trusted. I was disappointed to find out I am wrong about conservatives, or at least it seems that way.

When your government is able to jail an American citizen and get away with it, like Jose Padilla, and hold them without basic constitutional protections, our democracy is in real trouble. No matter the crime or how severe it is, a democratic country does not allow lynching or a rush to justice of any kind. Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were treated better and the government executed them. Is that what they plan for Jose Padilla? Who has caused more real harm to Americans, ENRON executives or Jose Padilla?
