Peaceful Transition of Power or Coup d’etat?

January 14th, 2004 . by Alexander Fisher

Let’s say just for fun, that George Bush is defeated in the election in November 2004. Does George Bush and his politburo just leave town quietly or do they make a fuss and try to stay on? A Coup d’etat right here in America?

I say that the timing is right for the reactionaries to strike, so they can make America safe for rich people once again. If the White House cannot find a way to win the election legally, or not, there is a possibility that there could be a convenient “disaster” somewhere in America or abroad that would require “A continuous leadership to see us through this tragedy?” or something like that. How about a little nuclear action, some sort of gas, or maybe the return of anthrax, maybe? Would the military back the president or come to the defense of democracy? Does the NRA side with freedom or do they put their rubber stamp on fascism? Does the public riot or will they be calmed by Fox News insisting that it was the only thing the president could do to keep order?

I told my liberal Democrat neighbor my Coup d’etat therory and she thinks it and me are nuts. That may be, but I couldn’t tell you that I believe that this is impossible. I doubt if anyone could guarantee that it couldn’t happen.
