Pete Rose and the Hall of Fame

January 7th, 2004 . by Alexander Fisher

I read an editorial today in the sports section about Pete Rose admitting that he had gambled on baseball. I understand that he has a new book out where he admits that he did place bets on baseball while he managed the Cincinnati Reds. The story that I saw made mention that although he had admitted wagering on baseball, he had not said that he was sorry. The author of the story is a sports editor for the paper. I must admit that I am a fan of the Cincinnati Reds and have followed them since I was a little boy. I was at a game in 1968 where Pete Rose played right field and was talking to my group of little leaguers in the bleachers between innings.

VH1’s Top 100 Greatest Hard Rock Artists

January 5th, 2004 . by Alexander Fisher

I was watching a VH-1 TV special recently about the 100 Greatest Hard Rock bands of all time. I was very intrigued by it and immediately wanted to analyze it from a real hard rock fan’s perspective. I found myself searching the web for the complete list so that I could try to make sense of what VH1 had put together. I guess they asked real rock stars their opinions. Another thing, it was it was put together in about 2000. That would explain some of the really quircky additions like Hole being on the list. That band was among those that made the omissions that more glaring.

Some of the opinions of the rock artists that were polled were educated, but others must not be too connected to the history of hard rock. Everyone knows Black Sabbath and Deep Purple would make the list and I will not argue with Led Zeppelin being named the number one hard rock band of all time. They earned it.

2004 Fiesta Bowl and the Buckeyes

January 4th, 2004 . by Alexander Fisher

I just saw the 2004 Fiesta Bowl, a day after it actually happened. Unfortunately, I only taped four hours of a four hour and ten minute ball game. I knew when I set the timer I should have set it for a little bit longer. I am not sure what the final score was for the game because I can’t find my newspaper for today. I assume it is about the same as it was when the tape ran out. It was 35-28 in favor of Ohio State at that point, with about two plus minutes left.

Movable Type installed and Here’s How I Did it

January 2nd, 2004 . by Alexander Fisher

I finally got Movable Type running on my web site. I have copied over all of my previous Earthlink posts. From a user standpoint, using Movable Type as opposed to the limited capability of the Earthlink page, is almost unreal. I was having fun on my Earthlink Blog. I hope now with more control, I will have even more fun. If I could make Movable Type better, I would put in WYSIWYG editing for the posts (entries), templates, and the cascading style sheets plus a dictionary. I must admit, it is a fun kind of challenge to go back and do manual HTML and XML again.

Two Thousand Four

January 1st, 2004 . by Alexander Fisher

Just when you think you have gotton to the point when you don’t think that you’re going to write 2002 anymore, all of a sudden it’s 2004. At least for the first month I will write the date on everything important as 2003 or 03. Especially checks. There are times during the year when I actually have a lapse and write 1987 or something.
